..... the MAN ......

The father that has three sons that carry the CLAYTON name and many grand children has been a highly successful educator and coach.

He worked with students from Pompano Beach to Brevard County (Titusville Gibson, Cocoa Monroe) and closing his career at Merritt Island High School.

,,,.. the MYTH ......

The original Coach Clayton is in the FAMU Hall of Fame for his collegiate basketball prowess. He was a member of the fabled FAMU Final Four team that won a SIAC basketball championship with only four players on the court.

Playing in the Championship game at Alabama State the entire team was in the process of fouling out of the game and only four remained. The remaining four mounted a comeback and won the championship short handed.

Coach Clayton was the first basketball coach at Blanche Ely High School.

He was also the first black head coach in Brevard County at a majority high school after desegregation. He coached the boys and the girls at Merritt Island High School.

.... THE LEGACY ......

Coach Mack Clayton has a successful brother who coached collegiately, Dale Clayton.

He had a son, Mickey, who attended Florida A&M University, like his dad. Following in his dads steps as  a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. Mickey also was  the men and the women's head coach at Florida A&M University. He is America's only Division I coach to win the trifecta. To win a conference championship as the Head Men's Basketball Coach,  the Women's Head Basketball Coach, and win a conference championship  at the same institution.

Coach Clayton also has a grand-daughter who is blossoming as a young coach. Milan Clayton is  a multiple All-State selection, who won state championships at two different high schools. Milan was on the coaching staff at FAMU High, winning as a player and coach. She is one of a limited number of female coaches toiling the AAU sidelines on the boys side.

Coach Mack Clayton is the Original Coach Clayton and has allowed his legacy to continue through multi-generations.

.....Honoring his Accomplishments.....
